Description:

Let's make some awesome headbands and send at least 2 headbands to each of your 2 partners! (That means you're required to make at least 4 headbands total. But don't worry, they're easy!)

I just made some of these for the Little Girl or Big Girl Fun Handmade Hair swap hosted by 28skbailey. I loved it, it was really easy and they look so nice compared to any headbands I'd find in a store! I really want to keep making more of these! The picture shows some that I made.

(I don't use ponytail holders or other types of hair stuff as much though, so let's just stick to the headbands for this swap. That way everyone who signs up to do this will know they'll be getting something they can use. As I don't have any kids, I'm making this swap assuming that the headbands will be made for your adult swap partner to wear. However, if your partner has kids and you prefer to make little girl headbands, you may discuss this with your partner.)

Suggestions for how to make them:

  1. Get a bunch of plain headbands. They can be the cheap plastic ones, it doesn't matter what they look like. (You can get them cheap at dollar tree, walmart, etc.)

  2. Cover headbands in fabric, yarn, ribbon, decorative duct tape, etc. You might want to sew them or something, but I'm just using glue. I haven't tried it yet, but I think it would be possible to decoupage the flat, wide ones, using patterned scrapbook paper, magazine cutouts, etc. If you're using fabric to cover them, you could try decorating them with fabric paint/fabric markers.

  3. If desired, attach embellishments such as: buttons, beads, glitter, feathers, sparkly jewels, silk flowers, sequins, bows, stones, crystals, charms, little things made of felt or foam, old pieces of jewelry, random found objects, or whatever else you can think of!

It doesn't take long to sit down and make a whole bunch of them. So go ahead and experiment with making different types, and then you can decide which ones you will send to your partners and which ones you want to keep for yourself!

You don't have to stick to my suggestions. Make them however you want, let your imagination run wild! They just have to be A) headbands and B) creative... as the swap title says! They don't have to be covered in tons of wild bling if you're not into that, they can be simple. A plain plastic headband covered in nice fabric looks great! There must be some craft component though, DO NOT send store-bought headbands that you have not altered in any way.

Please only send something that you would actually wear in public. ;)
