Description:

The war with the French Republic rages on with unabated fury; our gallant officers of both the Army and the Royal Navy do return time and again to engage the enemy with steadfast resolve. The late expedition to Toulon, alas, did not unfold as was hoped, and our brave men, having rendered assistance to the loyalists in their flight, were compelled to withdraw, now stationed at Gibraltar, and awaiting further command. A heartfelt description of hearth and home, of familiar scenes and gentle remembrances, shall surely lift their spirits and remind them of that for which they fight.

In Amberleigh, Miss Alice Powell’s brother, Lieutenant Commander William Powell, serves with honour in His Majesty’s Navy; likewise, Mrs. Jenny Wren Venning’s husband, Captain Alexander Venning, bears arms in His Majesty’s Army. Let us, therefore, take up our quills and commit to paper such words as may gladden the hearts of our beloved.

For this swap, we shall have one partner and will write a missive filled with descriptions and anecdotes about life in our village to either of the above mentioned officers or any other loved one of your own Amberleigh family engaged in battle on behalf of His Majesty King George III. Please fill a notecard or one side of a regular sized sheet of stationery, more if you are so inclined. Be colourful, speak of the recent Church Picnic or the coming Harvest Festival. Talk of friends, neighbours and family and make it a letter your partner shall enjoy reading.

Note As this is a letter swap, recent sending restrictions do not apply, and you may send with confidence. If you have any questions about the swap, leave a comment below or contact us and we shall be delighted to be of assistance.

You must belong to the "At Home with the Georgettes" Group in order to join this swap.
